Cajas

Brendon´s Perspective
--------------------------------------
We woke up early again and left with the Merchan family when they left for work.  We took a bus from the terminal to the national park of Cajas.  There are some pictures below but the area was amazing.  There was almost complete silence.  The park is at about 13,000 feet above sea level and not much can live that high up.  The main area is a large lagoon surounded by many lakes and rivers.  The entire park has over 700 lagoons.  We decided to walk all the way around and took many pictures.  It was a great time to talk and just enjoy the silence and fresh air.  Afterwards we waited out on the Freeway to take a bus.

The bus came and we asked him to drop us off a a place on the way.  There are several fishing areas where you can fish and they will then cook it for you right there.  We got off the bus there and it was raining hard so we decided against going fishing.  What we didn´t realize was that busses don´t usually stop there.  So we weren´t sure what to do so we started walking towards cuenca.  Cuenca is about 30 minutes in bus from where we were so it was going to take a while.  After about 20 minutes of me failing to get a car to stop I told Christina to just turn around, smile, and wave.  After just 3 tries a car stopped by to give us a ride back down to the town.  He was very nice and didn´t even charge us at all!!!

Christina's Perspective
----------------------------------------

So today we woke up early, again, and went to the national park at Cajas. It was drizzling pretty much the whole time and was surprisingly really cold. Thank goodness we bought me this sweater. Although it is thin, at least it is something. The area we hiked was very nice. It was soooo quiet. For a good period of time we were in complete silence. It was funny, after walking for like five minutes we both could hardly catch our breath. Apparently the park is 13,000 feet above sea level. Go figure. The place we were hiking at was just this big mountain looking thing that surrounded this lagoon. It took us an hour or two I think to hike the whole thing. It was pretty cool. Although I slipped a couple times and my feet were completely soaked. It was very relaxing though. The hike was not steep at all.

Afterwards, we waited for the bus. The bus came and Brendon wanted to go eat at this place he heard about that was kind of in the middle of no where. The bus driver wanted us to pay the entire two bucks it cost to drive to Cuenca, and we were getting dropped off less than half way to Cuenca. I was pissed about that, but whatever. So we ate and the food was fine, but when we left, we couldn't find a ride. We decided to walk to see if we could catch a bus, but every bus and every person that passed us wouldn't pick us up. While walking, we found this super cool looking place that allowed you to fish and had all these sculptures and statues around. It looked pretty awesome.
So we kept walking and saw two cows just not giving a crap, walking into the middle of the street and taking up a whole lane. It was funny.

We kept walking for a good while and I decided to try out the hitchiking because Brendon wasn't very lucky. Luckily enough, a nice family picked us up soon after and took us all the way to Cuenca.
My first hitchiking experience ever! Isn't that awesome? Never thought I would ever do that. Especially without dying.
