After our short day in Machala we woke up early and went off to Guayaquil. We got there in the afternoon and found the Members house where we were going to stay. We dropped off our packs and went to the center.
The center of Guayaquil is fantastic, we walked along the board walk and enjoyed the sights. We then went to the Iguana park but I told Christina we had to find some bananas first. When we got to the park there were hardly any igusnana in sight. I was a little dissapointed at first but we did find one on the ground. We walked up to it and right away it started coming after us. I was eating the banana and he must have saw it. He then began to climb up my body to get to it and quickly took it out of my hands, it was soooooo awesome. The locals and other tourists loved the sight.
We then found another iguana and had Christina try it this time with the same effect. This time was a bit different though because there were a bunch of pigeons all around as well. As Christina was feeding the Iguana two pigions landed on her arms, it was the FUNNIest thing I have seen. Christina was bent over with an Iguana climbing all over here and two pigions pirched on her arm.
We were about to finish things up but we found one more iguana who looked a little smaller so we thought we would feed him. He was next to a tree that had another 15 or so up in the branches. As we fed the smaller one, groups of Iguanans started to jump out of the tree and come after us. Before we knew what was happening I had 3-5 iguanas trying to fight on me over the last banana. It was a blast!!!
We ended the night sleeping in the sisters house, she had given up her bed for us and she slept on the couch. I can never believe how kind and generous the people of Ecuador are.
Christina's Perspective:
So on this wonderful day we arrived in Guayaquil. I really enjoyed our time there. We started it off with a walk on the boardwalk place thingy, which was gorgeous! I loved it. Walking next to the water (even though it was some ugly ugly water) on my right and the wonderful green pathways to my left. They really work hard keeping up with the yardwork there. It was so pretty.
We walked down some of the pathways and ran into some ducks and fed some fish. We walked around for awhile more and then Brendon wanted to take me to the iguana park. I was suppper excited!
So before we got to the park, brendon said we needed to buy bananas to feed them with. When we got there, there weren't any on the ground. So we kept walking and found one on the ground with people hovering around taking pictures. Brendon was eating one of the bananas and the iguana smelled it. He began to pretty much do his little iguana run towards Brendon, and Brendon bent down. The iguana attacked him, crawling all up his clothes and perching himself on his chest, snatching the banana right out of his hands. It was SO FUNNY!! Everyone around started laughing and taking pictures. More people came around to look. Brendon loved the attention ;) He was the little trendsetter.
After that we walked arond the park and got to the center of it. There was another iguana on the ground and this time brendon had me try and feed it. So I bent down to feed it and let it crawl on top of me, but this time it was in the middle of a plethora of pigeons. So as I held out the banana, the iguana got a good bite and worked on that for about a year or two (takes them awhile to chew) and then two pigeons decide to fly onto my arm. It was hilarious, and Brendon captured a really funny photo of my face during this time.
BY THE WAY: Is a dove really just a white pigeon or is it a whole different bird? Brendon and I have contemplated this for quite awhile.
Moving on....after the iguana park, with iguana poop and banana smudged on my pants and shirt, we went to go meet Brendon's friend charles.
We took Charles and his girlfriend out to TGI Fridays, and it sadly wasn't the best. The dish was good, the prices were WAY HIGH, like USA high, and I found plastic in my food. Poopy.
After that we walked arond the mall and played some games at the arcade there. That was funnn :)
Then we went back to the house we were staying at. It was this woman who Brendon would visit frequently while on his mission. She gave up her bed for us and slept on the couch. She was a real sweetheart, and she taught us a lot about hospitality.
Then, off to Baños!

Iguana Park!
The iguana that attacked Brendon
At this moment in time, the iguana was munching on some
banana while sitting on Christina, and two pigeons decided to fly onto her arm.
Then they flew away. She was still a little shocked.
Iguana in attack mode. Coming to attack us for some banana.
Brendon actually had 3 iguanas on him. The one on the floor just fell off
when the picture was taken.
